Will iCal4OL run on Windows 10?

If this Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WoW64 is correct, WoW64 is in the Preview of Windows 10.
Therefore it will work.

See this topic: http://visualstudio.uservoice.com/forum … oved-versi  Jun 3, 2014

Visual Studio Team wrote:

The VB6 runtime it is still a component of the Windows operating system and is a component shipped in Windows 8.1. It will be supported at least through 2024.

.....

The VB6 runtime was last shipped in Windows 8.1 and will be supported for the lifetime of Windows 8.1

.

The Preview 2 of Windows 10 showed some errata with the painting of the window.

Perhaps you will need to activate the WinXP compatibility for iCal4OL.exe

Or perhaps, for the normal version, you must delete the file iCal4OL.exe.manifest
(For the special version you must edit the manifest file, removing:
  <dependency>
    <dependentAssembly>
      <assemblyIdentity language="*" name="Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls" processorArchitecture="X86" publicKeyToken="6595b64144ccf1df" type="win32" version="6.0.0.0" />
    </dependentAssembly>
  </dependency>
)

Re: Will iCal4OL run on Windows 10?

For more than two weeks, iCAL4OL (V 2.15.4) is running without any problems on my Windows 10 Pro 64-bit with Outlook 2013 64-bit.

Re: Will iCal4OL run on Windows 10?

I haven't had a problem with Windows 10 and iCal4OL.

However, since upgrading to Outlook 2016 I do get an annoying pop-up window (asks if I want to trust the program trying to access Outlook) and I cannot work out how to get rid of it when iCal4OL loads with Windows.

Edit; It looks like I was using a old version, I will update to 2.15.5 and see how it goes. Thanks

Re: Will iCal4OL run on Windows 10?

After updating to 2.15.5 it doesn't look like the pop-up window comes up anymore smile

I am not sure why the program wasn't updating, I have the check for updates option ticked sad

corrected..

FAQ wrote:

Note: In the morning (startup PC) - mostly on mondays - the antivirus software is not yet up-to-date...

If updates for iCal4OL are available, is only checked in interactive mode (starting e.g. by iCal4OL.lnk).
Otherwise you have to check manually, e.g. starting the browser, then either
use the (non public) link for the customer page (see purchase/upgrade mails), or
unmark and mark again the corresponding option on tab "Who" after stopping the tasktray sync.

And there was..
- an Outlook 2016 32-bit issue with RDOiCal4OL.dll (licensed DLL), which was fixed.
- a setup hang on Windows 10 64-bit, where I'm not sure if it's working now on every PC (un-/re-registering RDOiCal4OL.dll).
That's the reason for releasing iCal4OL 2.15.5.

Re: Will iCal4OL run on Windows 10?

Hi Roland,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I am not sure about the FAQ, those locations do not exist (In Outlook under FILE - Options - Security Center - Settings.. mark [X] Never warn me about suspicious activity (not recommended))

File -> Options -> Trust Center -> Trust Center Settings -> ...

I am not sure which one after that though.

I am using Outlook 2016 64 bit. However, as I mentioned, I am not getting the message now, so hopefully it is fixed anyway in the latest version.

Again..

You may need to right-click Outlook.lnk and choose "run as administrator..", to be able to change it. Restart OL afterwards!

If you do not need Outlook immediately after system start, you may want to try OLTrigger.exe - see http://ical.gutentag.ch/forum/viewtopic.php?id=841

Thanks, the administrator option worked. I will see if the message comes up again, if it does then I will enable the option.

Thanks for all your quick replies Roland.

Hi Roland, just FYI that message started again. So I have changed it to never warn. Hopefully it stops the message now.

Re: Will iCal4OL run on Windows 10?

Hi Roland. I have no problem fixing the Programmatic access setting as administrator. However, it appears to reset the setting every few weeks. I was wondering if you knew of any way to make the setting stick? Thanks

Re: Will iCal4OL run on Windows 10?

Sorry, no idea.

Perhaps by Group Policy (PC in Domain?!),
a Windows Update or
perhaps resetted when Antivirus program is not up-to-date, see https://support.office.com/en-us/articl … efba09946b

Re: Will iCal4OL run on Windows 10?

It looks like that every time Outlook does an update / windows update it resets that particular setting & I have to go in and turn Programmatic access back on

Re: Will iCal4OL run on Windows 10?

For other readers:
Outlook >=2010 needs an active and updated Antivirus Solution, otherwise iCal4OL may get blocked!
E.g. Security access warnings or There is a problem with the ActiveX component of Outlook (Error:429)
In Outlook under FILE - Options - Trust Center - Trust Center Settings -> Programmatic Access,
mark [X] Never warn me about suspicious activity (not recommended)
You may need to right-click Outlook.lnk and choose "run as administrator..", to be able to change it. Restart OL afterwards!

If you have Office 32-bit installed (see FILE-HELP), you could switch on tab "Options - RDO/misc." to
[X] Only RDO (Synchronization directly with Outlook profile and not over Outlook.exe)
Please install for this at least version 2.16.2 (last RDOiCal4OL.dll update), see customer page.

Or you install another antivirus solution, because the normal Outlook setting will allow access, if the antivirus definitions are up-to-date (and perhaps there is even an option to unblock Outlook).
Note: Some Antivirus solutions will produce a "false positive" on iCal4OL.exe (or execopy.exe). It's the poorly written heuristic, not liking programs with AES encoding (used for password saving).

No other idea. iCal4OL is a VB6 32-bit program (not .NET), therefore nothing I can improve..

Re: Will iCal4OL run on Windows 10?

Hi Roland,

I am running Outlook 2016 (Office 365) 64 bit on Windows 10.

It is almost every reboot now that it resets the pragmatic access back and I have to load Outlook as admin and change the setting. It is very annoying.

Any ideas?

I can try the above option, just not sure if it will apply for my version of Outlook

Re: Will iCal4OL run on Windows 10?

As written: "Only RDO" does not work for 64-bit Office (see FILE - HELP in Outlook).

Nothing I can do - but you could use a different antivirus solution. Which one are you using?!
The access to Outlook is only blocked, if Outlook does not recognize the antivirus solution or is not up-to-date.
Some antivirus solutions do have an option for accessing/blocking Outlook - check it.

Re: Will iCal4OL run on Windows 10?

Only two thoughts:
- Only once before...
  I heard, this is a defender 64-bit issue with an Outlook 365 (64-bit) installation. Are you sure, your OS/Defender is up-to-date?!
  Install a free antivirus, too... this may help!
- If PC is in a domain, perhaps a group policy is in place?! Nothing can be done..

Re: Will iCal4OL run on Windows 10?

Yeah, everything is on auto-update.

But, it isn't the anti-virus is it? Outlook itself is resetting the programmatic access setting back to "warn me about suspicious activity...."

Re: Will iCal4OL run on Windows 10?

Yes or by Defender or by Group Policies - don't know.

With an additional antivirus solution, the access probably does not get blocked wink
Standard setting is: [X] Warn me about suspicious activity when my antivirus software is inactive.....

[X] Never warn me about suspicious activity (not recommended)
can also be set in the registry, e.g. (for OL2010... change the path, or google yourself): https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Fo … um=outlook
Restart needed to verify..

Local Group Policies (gpedit.msc) set?!
Overview about all methods see https://www.msoutlook.info/question/883 (change the path for OL2016)

Re: Will iCal4OL run on Windows 10?

I only have Windows 10 home, so no group policies.

I tried the registry edit, but, it reset the setting after Windows/office updated.

The only thing I was thinking, do you think it may be happening because Windows is still booting up and Office thinks anti-virus is broken? (as it hasn't started up 100%)?

Is there any easy way to delay iCal4OL for a minute or two from starting?

Re: Will iCal4OL run on Windows 10?

See http://ical.gutentag.ch/documentation.html#D1e about e.g. TRAY015W

(Modify e.g. the link "iCal4OL TRAY every 15 minutes.lnk")

ATM I run the 60 min one:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\iCal4OL\iCal4OL.exe" TRAY060

So would it be:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\iCal4OL\iCal4OL.exe" TRAY060W

or with both

"C:\Program Files (x86)\iCal4OL\iCal4OL.exe" TRAY060 TRAY060W

Re: Will iCal4OL run on Windows 10?

"C:\Program Files (x86)\iCal4OL\iCal4OL.exe" TRAY060W

(But) it will wait first for 60 minutes before connecting to Outlook.exe (can only be cancelled in Task-Manager during this time), and will wait again 60 minutes between syncs..

Perhaps OLTrigger.exe is another way to go (don't load Outlook.exe in Startup folder)?!
http://ical.gutentag.ch/forum/viewtopic.php?id=841

Or use the OS taskplaner, see e.g. http://ical.gutentag.ch/faq_en.html#F9v [Update link corrected]

Most users do a sync "on demand", either by corresponding link with "TRAY"...
or keep it 999 minutes in the tray idle (where you can re-start a sync by contect menu), by "TRAY999"

They are the same link?

It's ok, I will just try the 060W and see how it goes
